Hagoromo created Gyuki and the other tailed beasts. He split the energy of a powerful creature into nine parts, and Gyūki is one of those parts. Hagoromo told the tailed beasts that they were connected and would be reunited one day.
Before Hagoromo died, he sent Gyuki to live in a temple located in a place with tall mountains and clouds. This temple was built to protect Gyuki and became part of the Land of Lightning.
In the past, Hashirama Senju captured eight of the tailed beasts and sold two of them, including Gyuki, to Kumogakure, the Village Hidden in the Clouds. This was done to establish friendship and a balance of power between villages. In a special place called the Falls of Truth, where jinchuriki learn to control their tailed beasts, there are pictures of Gyuki and another tailed beast called Matatabi. These pictures indicate how long they have been associated with the village.
Over the years, Gyuki had several different jinchuriki, such as Blue B, his uncle, and his father, but none of them could control its power. As a result, Gyuki would frequently go out of control, causing destruction and death in the village. However, the leaders of Kumogakure believed that having a jinchuriki for Gyuki was crucial for their defense and continued searching for a compatible host. They formed a special group to capture and seal Gyuki.
During one of its rampages, Gyuki fought the Third Raikage, the leader of Kumogakure, until both of them collapsed from exhaustion. In another incident, Gyuki lost one of its four horns while fighting the Third Raikage. Despite these challenges, the Third Raikage persisted in finding a jinchuriki for Gyuki.
Eventually, Gyuki was sealed by a young ninja named Killer B using the Iron Armor Seal technique. Killer B was only five years old at the time. Through intense training at the Falls of Truth, Killer B defeated and befriended Gyuki, forming a strong bond with the tailed beast.
In Pain Assault Arc
When the group Taka, consisting of Sasuke Uchiha, Suigetsu Hozuki, Jugo, and Karin, were given the task by the Akatsuki group to capture Gyuki (Eight-Tailed Beast), they arrived in Kumogakure with the goal of capturing Killer B and engaged in a battle. However, Killer B had excellent control over his tailed beast, the Eight-Tails. He transformed into the Eight-Tails and started attacking Taka. Suigetsu, one of the members of Taka, used water-based attacks against Killer B, but Killer B countered by firing a powerful Tailed Beast Ball at Suigetsu, defeating him.
Sasuke used his Mangekyo Sharingan to cast a powerful flame called Amaterasu on Killer B. The flames caused Killer B pain and made him vulnerable. But Sasuke's teammate, Karin, was about to be crushed by one of the Eight-Tails' tails. Sasuke stepped in and cut the tail using his Chidori Sharp Spear technique. However, Killer B escaped by disguising himself as the severed tail.
Taka appeared to have captured Killer B and handed him over to another organization member named Tobi. This angered Killer B's brother, the Fourth Raikage, who vowed to make Akatsuki pay for their actions.
Later, it was revealed that Killer B had faked his capture. He and the Eight-Tails left the lake where they were hiding, and Killer B took the opportunity to take a break from his role as a guardian. He joked that he thought a new era was coming but believed it referred to his singing career.
Five Kage Summit arc
During the battle between Kisame and Gyuki (Eight-Tails), Kisame attacked Killer B, who is the jinchuriki of Gyuki. As Kisame confronted B, Gyuki wanted to be released to fight alongside B. However, B reminded Gyuki that their friends Sabu and Ponta would be in danger if he came out. Despite this, Gyuki reluctantly allowed B to use the Version 2 form, a powerful transformation.
As the battle continued, Gyuki provided B with advice and guidance on how to fight effectively. However, Kisame managed to land a powerful blow on B, causing him to lose consciousness. At this critical moment, Gyuki desperately called out to B, urging him to wake up and continue the fight.
Meanwhile, both B and Gyūki were running low on chakra, making their situation more precarious. Just as Kisame prepared to deliver the final blow, the Raikage and his bodyguards arrived at the scene. They intervened and assisted B in defeating Kisame.
Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown
When Naruto and Yamato traveled to the Land of Lightning, they were attacked by a large squid. Thankfully, Killer B, in his powerful Eight-Tails form, came to their rescue and defeated the squid, saving them. Seeing this, Naruto realized that B and the Eight-Tails were the "octopus" he had been searching for. He believed that B could help him learn to control the power of the Nine-Tails.
Naruto asked B to train him, but B initially refused. However, after training with bears in the forest, the Eight-Tails urged B to reconsider. Despite not being fond of the Nine-Tails, the Eight-Tails believed that B should train Naruto because they both shared the experience of being jinchuriki, individuals who have tailed beasts sealed inside them.
When Naruto couldn't fully transform into the Nine-Tails, the Eight-Tails (Gyuki) spoke with him. It warned Naruto about the dangers of using the tailed beast's chakra because it could drain Naruto's own chakra. The Eight-Tails explained that Naruto needed to find a way to make peace with the Nine-Tails to unlock its full power, but it acknowledged that this was unlikely. It also mentioned that Naruto couldn't learn the Tailed Beast Ball for now. Afterward, the Eight-Tails returned to their normal form.
Later, the Eight-Tails were surprised when Naruto detected the chakra of Kinkaku and Ginkaku, even though they were in a secure training area. It told Killer B to stop Naruto from leaving, but Naruto tricked B and escaped. As Naruto was escaping from the turtle island Gyuki and Killer B decided to help Naruto break the barriers.
Gyuki fights Itachi and Nagato alongside Killer B and Naruto
In a battle against Nagato and Itachi, Itachi trapped Killer B in a genjutsu, but the Eight-Tails disrupted B's chakra flow to free him. Itachi eventually broke free from control and joined forces with Naruto and B to defeat Nagato. They managed to seal away Nagato, and Itachi explained the situation before leaving Naruto and B to stop the Impure World Reincarnation.
The Eight-Tails scolded B for taking too many breaks and letting Naruto advance. When Naruto contacted them, the Eight-Tails shared a story about its battle with the Third Raikage. It initially believed it had caused the scar on the Third Raikage with its Tailed Beast Ball, but then remembered that both of them got exhausted and collapsed during the fight, with their powers still intact.
Gyuki fights his older Jinchuriki
Later, Motoi arrived to help B. Blue B, a reincarnated jinchuriki who had previously held the Eight-Tails, approached them. Blue B surprised the Eight-Tails by using the tailed beast chakra cloak and entering his powerful Version 2 form.
The Eight-Tails was curious about how Blue B could still use that power. Blue B revealed that Orochimaru had manipulated the Eight-Tails thirty years ago by using a drug that induced a genjutsu, and Orochimaru had also taken a piece of the Eight-Tails' severed horn during the chaos. Using the genetic material from the horn, Blue B obtained a recreation of the Eight-Tails' chakra.
They engaged in a battle, and although Motoi was initially defeated, B came to his rescue. Blue B realized that B had achieved what he couldn't and let go of his past, returning to the afterlife.
Gyuki, Killer B, and Naruto fight against Tobi (Obito Uchiha)
As Naruto and B confronted Tobi and his team of resurrected jinchuriki, known as the Six Paths of Pain, the Eight-Tails recognized Yugito Nii among them and realized the others were also previous jinchuriki. It warned B to be cautious, as the fate of the resurrected jinchuriki could await him too.
Gyuki explained that Tobi had restored their jinchuriki powers and shared a plan with Naruto to counter their enhanced abilities. B revealed the location of the receivers controlling the jinchūriki and unleashed his Tailed Beast Mode, leveling the surrounding forest to gain an advantage. However, Tobi forced the jinchuriki to transform into their more powerful forms, and they launched a fierce attack on Naruto and B. Utakata briefly captured B but could not hold him for long. Roshi attacked with molten lava, and Han, fully transformed into the Five-Tails, delivered a powerful blow that knocked B unconscious.
During a conversation between B, the Eight-Tails, and Naruto, the Eight-Tails asked if Naruto could hear the sad voice of the Five-Tails. It explained that the tailed beasts had their own feelings and became upset when one of them was mistreated. However, the Nine-Tails disagreed, saying that most shinobi treated them like pets, except for B and itself. This made the Eight-Tails think about what was said.
The Nine-Tails then mentioned that the Eight-Tails was the second strongest-tailed beast, urging it to hurry up. The Nine-Tails pretended to fall asleep when the conversation was interrupted. The Eight-Tails scolded the Nine-Tails for always ranking the tailed beasts based on their number of tails, which upset the One-Tail.
Later, when Naruto wanted to use the Nine-Tails' chakra, the Eight-Tails warned against using shadow clones. It also noted that Naruto should have been seriously weakened after using so much of the Nine-Tails' chakra, suggesting that the Nine-Tails had stopped taking Naruto's chakra at some point. The Eight-Tails then asked the Nine-Tails what had happened between them, and the Nine-Tails remembered Naruto's words about resolving its hatred and the advantages of having a tailed beast sealed within him.
After being thrown off, B tried to save Naruto from being swallowed by the Four-Tails by using his tentacles to restrain the beast. The Eight-Tails asked the Nine-Tails to lend Naruto its power as it did with one of Naruto's clones. However, the Nine-Tails refused, saying it wouldn't cooperate as easily as the Gyuki did with B.
This made the Eight-Tails question if the Nine-Tails cared about Naruto at all. Later, Naruto managed to remove the black receiver from the Four-Tails, and the Eight-Tails watched in shock as the beast was quickly sealed away. Naruto then gathered the Eight-Tails and B, preparing for the upcoming battle.
Gyuki suggested that he and B take the front line while Naruto provided support since he couldn't transform fully. Naruto reassured them that they were a team and everything would be fine. The Eight-Tails were surprised to see Naruto entering his Tailed Beast Mode with Kurama's power.
Gyuki rushed towards Naruto to help him, who was already fighting against the five opposing beasts. It used its tentacles to stop the Three-Tails from attacking Naruto's vulnerable spot. At the same time, it fought against the Five-Tails, telling it that the same attack wouldn't work again.
When the Three-Tails broke free, the Eight-Tails were shocked to see the five beasts preparing a powerful combined attack called the Tailed Beast Ball. Naruto planned to counter it with his own Tailed Beast Ball, even though he had never used it before.
When the two Tailed Beast Balls clashed, the Eight-Tails protected itself by holding onto Roshi's body. After Naruto successfully freed all the remaining tailed beasts, the Eight-Tails congratulated him.
Later, as Naruto taunted Tobi with newfound knowledge, both B and the Eight-Tails watched with a smirk. The battle continued, and B and Naruto teamed up to attack the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path with a double uppercut, knocking it to the ground after Kakashi and Guy's attacks. The Eight-Tails then witnessed Tobi seemingly preparing to revive the Ten-Tails.
During Naruto's inspiring speech about his dreams, B unexpectedly revealed his personal desires, causing the Eight-Tails to feel embarrassed for its jinchuriki.
During a moment of regrouping and discussion among the shinobi, Gyuki seized the opportunity to attack the statue controlled by Tobi. It attempted a punch, but Tobi's Uchiha Flame Formation barrier deflected the attack and burned Gyuki's hand.
Gyuki prepared to execute Kakashi's strategy. It held all the shinobi in its hands and threw them toward Tobi. When the trio regrouped after successfully hitting Tobi's arm, B listened to Kakashi's explanation of Tobi's technique and questioned whether all Space-Time Ninjutsu shared the same dimension. Upon learning that they didn't, B informed Naruto that landing an attack on an intangible person wouldn't be easy.
However, when Kakashi revealed that their assumption about Tobi's intangibility was incorrect, B inquired once again about the sharing of dimensions by their Sharingan.
Gyuki found himself bound by Tobi's large black receivers and was shocked by the arrival of Madara on the battlefield. When Naruto asked Madara about the whereabouts of the Kage, Gyuki speculated that their presence meant the Kage was in a dire situation.
The beast expressed gratitude to Naruto when he freed it from the stakes. As the battle with Madara raged on, Gyuki appeared to be knocked to the ground, prompting it to remark on Madara's immense power. When an injured Guy commented that this was precisely why they needed to fight Madara, Gyuki advised him not to push himself too hard.
As the battle continued, Madara restrained Gyuki and Guy. Just as Madara was about to attack, Naruto intervened and sent him flying. Gyuki acknowledged Guy's strength, realizing he wasn't just putting on a tough act. Breaking free from its restraints, Gyuki warned Naruto about the wood's ability to suppress a tailed beast's power.
Gyuki fights with Ten-Tails
The attention then turned to the statue, and Gyuki collaborated with Naruto to unleash a powerful-tailed beast ball at it, believing it was destroyed. However, their celebration was short-lived as the Ten-Tails emerged from the smoke.
Gyuki questioned Kurama about their willingness to face the Ten-Tails. Kurama advised against hiding and took charge of the situation. Before they could execute their strategy, the Ten-Tails attacked the tailed beasts. Despite launching a continuous stream of tailed beast balls, their attacks were ineffective against the Ten-Tails.
In the ensuing chaos, Gyuki disappeared. It was later revealed that Kakashi had teleported Gyuki away to protect it. However, Gyuki was caught off guard when the Ten-Tails redirected a tailed beast ball back at it. Fortunately, Kurama saved Gyuki and B before both tailed beasts ran out of power. They retreated to recover and regain their strength.
With their chakra replenished, Gyuki and B sprang into action to protect the shinobi from the Ten-Tails' impending Tailed Beast Ball. B transformed into his full beast form and shoved Gyūki's head into the Ten-Tails' mouth, launching a powerful attack that caused the beast to writhe in pain.
After the attack, Naruto was healed, and Kurama gathered more chakra. B and Gyuki recognized the need to take charge once again, as the Ten-Tails would become unstoppable if it completed its final transformation. As the shinobi constructed feeble earthen defenses according to Shikamaru's plan, B intervened and tried to divert the Ten-Tails' attack. However, despite their combined efforts, they couldn't stop the Ten-Tails, and the situation became critical.
Just when things seemed hopeless, the Fourth Hokage unexpectedly arrived, though the Alliance members were unaware of his presence. B was puzzled as he observed the Ten-Tails' attack seemingly vanishing. The arrival of the Fourth Hokage turned the tide of the battle and saved the shinobi from a huge disaster.
After Obito sealed the Ten-Tails inside himself, B asked Gyuki if that was the final form of the beast. Gyuki explained that it wasn't and that it seemed the beast had been sealed before reaching its ultimate form. B also asked if he could feel Kurama's chakra, to which Gyuki responded that it wasn't just Kurama's chakra.
Later, Obito recreated the Ten-Tails' tree form, and its roots began absorbing chakra from anyone they touched. B, with the help of Samehada, managed to destroy the roots that confronted him.
Naruto, Sasuke, and their allies then launched a powerful attack on Obito, forcing the chakra of all the tailed beasts to be released from his body. B grabbed Gyuki's chakra while Naruto, Gaara, and the rest of the Shinobi Alliance worked together to weaken Obito and prevent the Ten-Tails from fully transforming. Their goal was to reduce Obito to a shell of the Ten-Tails' tree form and stop a dangerous flower from blooming.
When Madara rushed toward the tailed beasts, Shukaku and Gaara worked together to restrain him using sand bullets. They created an opportunity for the other tailed beasts to attack Madara, allowing Gaara to use his Desert Layered Imperial Funeral Seal. However, Madara escaped the sand pyramid by using his Susanoo.
After that, the tailed beasts and Naruto teamed up to fight against Madara. Despite their efforts, Madara survived their attacks and retreated to a safe distance. Madara then received his own right Rinnegan eye from a White Zetsu clone. He summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path from Obito's body and used the power of the Rinnegan to repel and immobilize the tailed beasts.
Madara planned to extract Yang-Kurama and Gyuki from their jinchuriki. Gyuki struggled against being captured and apologized to B, but it was eventually extracted and sealed within the statue and the other tailed beasts. However, Gyuki managed to cut off one of its tentacles, allowing B to survive using the chakra within it.
After Madara became the jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, Obito, who had changed sides, took some of Gyuki's chakra and some of Shukaku's. Obito then sealed the Yin half of Kurama into Naruto, who was dying, to save his life. Along with Kurama's chakra, Obito also sealed the chakra portions of Gyuki and Shukaku into Naruto.
Inside Naruto's inner world, where his subconscious exists, Gyuki, Shukaku, and Yin-Kurama encountered Naruto, who was conversing with the spirit of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of the Six Paths. The other six tailed beasts also appeared in this meeting. They all believed Hagoromo that Naruto was the child mentioned in the prophecy.
After Black Zetsu revealed itself as the true manipulator of shinobi history, it used Madara's body to resurrect Kaguya Otsutsuki, the original creator of the ninja world. In the battle against Kaguya, Gyuki and the other tailed beasts supported Naruto by giving him their combined power. Naruto and Sasuke defeated Kaguya using a powerful technique called Six Paths Chibaku Tensei, which ejected the tailed beasts from her and sealed her inside a newly-created moon within her own dimension.
After being summoned back to the real world by the spirits of Hagoromo and the past Kage, the tailed beasts began discussing their plans for the future now that they were free.
Gyuki surprised Yang-Kurama by expressing its desire to return to B, its previous jinchūriki. However, Sasuke revealed his intentions to remove anyone who could hinder his plan of revolutionizing the shinobi world, including killing the current Kage and tailed beasts.
Sasuke quickly subdued the tailed beasts using his Rinnegan and sealed them within his Chibaku Tensei. Naruto reassured the tailed beasts that he would save them once again. Eventually, Naruto defeated and reformed Sasuke, dispelling the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and Sasuke released Gyuki and the other tailed beasts from their prisons.
After the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gyuki, the Eight-Tails, was sealed back into B, its jinchūriki. This means that B once again became the host of Gyuki's power.
Fifteen years later, B expressed his boredom and suggested checking on Naruto, his close friend. However, Gyuki informed him that Naruto was busy with important tasks and couldn't be visited then. So B had to find something else to do instead of visiting Naruto.
During an encounter with Momoshiki and Kinshiki, they captured Otsutsuki, Gyuki, and B. B tried to fight back by launching a powerful Tailed Beast Ball at Momoshiki, but Momoshiki used his Rinnegan to absorb and redirect the attack, knocking B out of his Tailed Beast Mode.
After that, Momoshiki and Kinshiki extracted Gyuki's chakra from B and left him unconscious in a river, intending to drown him. Momoshiki expressed disappointment in Gyuki's power, as it could only produce a few small red pills. Despite their injuries, Gyuki and B survived and eventually recovered from the ordeal.
Urashiki Otsutsuki started going after Shukaku to steal its chakra. It was then understood that Urashiki was interested in the chakra of all the tailed beasts. Naruto arranged a telepathic meeting with the other tailed beasts, except for Matatabi, Kokuo, and Chomei, to address this threat. These three tailed beasts were cautious and hesitant to accept human help because they feared being captured and used for nefarious purposes again. Despite having trust in Naruto, they preferred to stay cautious and protect themselves from potential harm.
Gyuki and the other tailed beasts were together when they felt Kurama's chakra disappearing. Kurama had sacrificed its life during the fight against Isshiki Otsutsuki, and the tailed beasts sensed the loss of Kurama's presence and power.
